  Henry Moore Piece
1993
dried potato and car-body filler
120mm x 35mm x 25mm

Initially the potato works were made in flippant response to the higher "gravitas" and more "serious" materials found throughout the history of sculpture.

Actually for the record I think Henry Moore's miniatures and maquettes are far and away the best of his work.. This wound up more of a tribute than parody.

From the first I saw the potato works as a way to explore issues of Scale. The potato has an inherent scale that is difficult to escape; every piece, unit is potato-sized.

I did a series along the lines of the above - which met with a fairly positive response.

Things fell off from there :)
